My boy Ope is a smart guy. And today he outsmarted most of us who thought Sen. Obama would find himself between a rock and a hard place and capitulate to Sen. McCain's hollow, self-serving Hail Mary pass. Obama's reaction was not to--as many of us thought--heed McCain's calls to stop the presidential campaign and return to Washington to sort out this bailout mess and skip the Friday night debate in the process, but to point out how the presidency sometimes requires multi-tasking crises and that the American people need to hear from their future president--who will inherit this and other difficult situations--more than ever in these critical, decisive times.

My take: Obama's response should be immediate and need not be delicate. Maybe something about consistency of commitment and the wonders of modern technology. And gotdamnright Obama should show up to the debate especially if McCain decides to stay home."

Cheers, brother.
